Ministry of Finance vide Notification dated 10th August 2022 has changed the rule of Atal Pension Yojna (APY).
From 01.10.2022 income-tax payers shall not be eligible to join APY. Amendment in APY for better targeting of pension benefits to underserved section of population. Effective in prospective manner from 1st Oct.
For the purpose of this clause, the expression “income-tax payer” shall mean a person who is liable to pay income-tax in accordance with the Income Tax Act, 1961, as amended from time to time
Income-tax payer enrolled before 1st Oct to continue in the scheme.
Atal Pension Yojana (APY) was launched in the financial year 2015-16. This scheme was started for those people who are not able to take benefit of any other government pension. The Modi government at the Center had started the Atal Pension Yojana keeping in mind the people working in the unorganized sector. Later, any Indian citizen between the age of 18 to 40 years could register himself in this scheme.
