As per the latest news on e-filing website on Income Tax, now there are many option to pay taxes on portal. This is a great relief for taxpayers who does not have Internet banking or Debit card to pay tax.
News is as follows:
The e-Filing website now offers e-Pay Tax service with wide range of modes for payment of taxes including Net Banking, Debit card, Pay at Bank Counter (Over the Counter), RTGS/NEFT and Payment Gateway (with sub-payment modes as Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card and UPI). Under RTGS/NEFT mode, payment of taxes can be made through any bank that offers this service. Tax payment through Protean website [NSDL] is also available to taxpayers as per the existing process.
A. Steps to file Income Tax Challan 0n Income Tax portal without login:
- Go to https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal
- On left pane select e-Pay Tax.
- Enter your PAN/TAN and Enter Mobile Number.
- Enter OTP received on Mobile Number.
- Confirm your name auto populated from PAN and Continue.
- Proceed with type of Tax (Income Tax, Equalisation Levy/ STT/ CTT, Fee/ Other Payments)
- Select Assessment Year and Type of Tax.
- Enter the amount of tax in particular field.
- Select from the payment options:
- Net Banking: You can pay through Federal Bank or Kotak Mahindra Bank. IF any other bank please follow existing process at through Protean website [NSDL]
- Debit Card: This option will be enabled soon.
- Pay at Bank Counter: Taxpayer can pay through Cash, Cheque or Demand Draft.
Note: This option cannot be used by a taxpayer being a Company or a person (other than a company) to whom provisions of section 44AB are applicable as per Notification 34/2008 of CBDT.
Taxpayer can avail this mode to pay taxes at the counter of Authorized banks.
i) Signed copy of Challan Form along with payment instrument needs to be presented before the branch of the selected Authorised Bank to make payment.
ii) Tax Payment of more than Rs. 10,000/- (Rupees Ten Thousand Only) in cash is not allowed under this mode.
iii) No transaction charge/fee is applicable for making tax payment through this mode.
- RTGS /NEFT: Taxpayer can create challan and take printout and make payment through bank website or branch.
- Payment Gateway: This mode provides a wide range of payment options to the taxpayer including Net Banking, Debit Card, Credit Card and UPI.
i) Select the Federal bank option and Continue.
ii) Check the payment details and click on pay now.
iii) Select the option from Debit card, Net banking or UPI.
iv) Pay accordingly
10. You can check the challan status after login into income tax portal.
B. Steps to file Income Tax Challan 0n Income Tax portal after login:
- Go to https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal
- Login to portal with your login credential.
- Select the e-Pay Tax from e-file drop down option.
- Select the New Payment.
- Follow the steps mentioned in above section.
- You can save draft the challan.
- You can view the generated challan.
- You can also view the payment history.
