PAN and Aadhar Linking: Extended Deadline & Step-by-Step Procedure

The CBDT has extended the deadline for linking PAN and Aadhaar to 30th June 2023. Therefore, it is advised to link your PAN with your Aadhaar number before your PAN becomes obsolete. How to check the status of linking of AADHAR with PAN:

1. Go to the Income tax department website www.incometax.gov.in

2. In the Quick Links bar click Link Aadhar Status

3. Fill in your PAN number and Aadhar number in the given tab

4. Click Verify link Aadhar status Here you will find whether your AADHAR is linked to your PAN card or not.

If the status shows PAN NOT LINKED WITH AADHAR then the following procedure is required to do for linking the Aadhar with PAN.

Procedure to make payment of applicable fees:

STEP : 1  Visit www.incometax.gov.in Portal Home page and click on Link Aadhaar in Quick Links section.

STEP : 2 Enter your PAN and AADHAR number and click continue.

STEP : 3 Click on Continue to Pay Through e-Pay Tax.

STEP : 4 You will be redirected to Protean (NSDL) Portal. Click Proceed under Challan No./ITNS 280.

STEP : 5  Select code Tax applicable as 0021 and Type of Payment as 500

STEP : 6 Provide Assessment Year as 2023-24 and other mandatory details and click on Proceed to make payment. On successful payment challan of ₹ 1000/- follow the next procedure to submit PAN-Aadhar link request.

Procedure to link your Aadhar with your PAN card – Pre Login mode

STEP : 1  Go to e-filing portal home page and click on Link Aadhaar under Quick links and  enter the PAN and Aadhaar and click on Validate.

STEP : 2 Verify your challan payment details.

STEP : 3 Enter the mandatory details as required and click on Link Aadhaar and validate the information with OTP received on mobile.

On verifying with OTP your request see a success message on the screen. You may now check again your Aadhaar-PAN link status. PAN and Aadhar Linking – Common Errors and Solution

Error 1: PAN data is not matched with Aadhar data

Solution : Correction required to be done in PAN or Aadhar wherever wrong information persists.

Error 2: Aadhar is linked with another PAN number

Solution : In that case, you are required to check whether you have allotted a new PAN number by linking it to your Aadhar card.

Step : 1 Surrender the New PAN card allotted by the Income Tax department to the jurisdiction officer.

Step : 2 Fill out a PAN correction form for your original PAN number to NSDL or visit PAN correction canter for the same.
