Cash Transaction Limits under Income Tax Act

1. Section 40A(3) – Business Expenditure in Cash
Limit: ₹10,000 per day per person
For Transporters: ₹35,000 per day per person
Penalty: 100% of such payment disallowed as expenditure

2. Section 269SS – Acceptance & Repayment  of Loan/Deposit
Limit: ₹20,000
Condition: No person can accept a loan/deposit of ₹20,000 or more in cash
Penalty u/s 271D & 271E: Equal to the amount accepted

3. Section 269ST – Receipt of Cash
Limit: ₹2,00,000
Condition: No person can receive cash:
In aggregate from a person in a day, or
In respect of a single transaction, or
In respect of transactions relating to one event or occasion
Penalty u/s 271DA: Equal to the amount received

4. Section 43(1) – Capital Expenditure in Cash
Limit: ₹10,000
Condition: Any capital expenditure in cash exceeding ₹10,000 will not be included in the cost of the asset (no depreciation allowed)

5. Donations under Section 80G
Limit: ₹2,000
Condition: Donations exceeding ₹2,000 must be made via non-cash
mode to claim deduction under 80G
6. Real Estate Transactions (RERA + IT Act)
Limit: No cash transaction of ₹2,00,000 or more
Entire transaction must be accounted and usually paid via banking channels
