Multi Vehicle Option for e-Way bill

Eway Bill for Multiple Vehicles

The ‘Update multi-vehicle’ feature for E-way bill was enabled on 11th June, 2018. This option is available at the place of transhipment and not from supplier’s place.

This essentially means that the change in the vehicle carrier for the transportation of a single shipment can be conveniently updated against the E-way bill.

Earlier, separate delivery challans had to be raised first for consignment moving in multiple-vehicles, followed by generation of separate E-way bills for the same. Now, using the multi-vehicle updation, the multiple conveyance details can be filled in after generating the E-way bill. Now transporters can simply update vehicle details to include them in the same E-way bill, there is no need for a new E Way bill generation.

Cases where multi vehicle option needed:

Case-1 When Transporting to a Single Destination

Goods may also have to be transported from one destination to another, through different conveyance modes. For Eg: an e-way bill is generated and needs to be moved from A to C. Here, the consignment moves from A to B via Rail or bigger vehicle. Now, it is not possible to move the consignment from B to C in the same mode of transportation due to unavailability of that mode or may be due to hilly region where big vehicles cannot be used. In such cases, the consignment needs to be moved in multiple smaller vehicles.

Case-2 When Transporting Consignments to Multiple Destinations

In this case the supplier sends goods to the warehouse of the transporter. From the warehouse, the goods are sent to different destinations through multiple vehicles.

Steps to generate Multi Vehicle Eway bill:

1. First generate the e-way bill with source and destination as per the document/invoice.
2. Carry out the first leg of movement of the consignment up to the transshipment.
3. Choose the ‘Change to Multi-vehicle’ option and update the e-way bill for multi-vehicle movement. Here, the total quantity of the consignment and movement from and to place for the multiple vehicles requirement has to be entered
